Fishing and Sport Fishing

In the 1900s, a part of the waterfront was set aside for commercial fishing, called Fisherman’s Wharf. Fishers went from selling seafood from their boats to creating stores and restaurants. It became the place to go for fresh caught seafood and dishes.

Fisherman's Wharf is still at the heart of our fishing community. Pier 45 processes more than 21 million pounds of fish every year. Local fishers supply three-quarters of the fish eaten in San Francisco restaurants. Fishers still sell fresh caught crab and fish from boats during the season.

Visitors can fish from public piers and spaces along the waterfront. Check recreational fishing rules during the season.

Sport Fishing

Sport fishing vessels take groups to the open waters outside of the bay for seasonal fishing. Trips are available all season long to fish for rockfish, salmon, Dungeness crab and more. Many of the sport fisher vessels are at the Jefferson Street lagoon and at Hyde Street Harbor.

Check with the vessels directly for available trips and prices.
