Advancing equity and sustainability along the waterfront, the Port of San Francisco announced its co-sponsorship of the “Clean Fleet Experience” showcase of industry-leading sustainable trucking technology.
The event takes place Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Pier 96 and features a conference, networking opportunities, technology exposition, and ride and drive opportunities. Organized by ZEV Tour, the event will feature the latest lineup of battery-electric and hydrogen-fuel cell trucks and related solutions and services from nearly 20 major manufacturers.
Registration is open to the public. The primary audience for the Clean Fleet Experience is the approximately 75 independent truckers who are licensed to park their trucks on Port property. These truckers support diverse activities, including moving services, transportation, hauling of goods, building and demolition materials.
The event can help these truckers, many of whom are residents of the Bayview neighborhood, learn about zero-emission technologies and become early adopters of these new trucks. To encourage their attendance, the Port is paying the registration fee for Port tenants.
“We’re excited to host this innovative event to support truckers on the waterfront as well as those across the region,” said Port of San Francisco Executive Director Elaine Forbes. “The transportation industry accounts for approximately half of the City’s emissions. Expanding the use of sustainable truck technologies is key to helping San Francisco reach its goal of net-zero emissions by 2040.”
Karen Pierce, Director of Programs at Bayview Advocates and member of the Port’s Southern Waterfront Advisory Committee said: "The Bayview has some of the highest levels of diesel emissions and asthma rates in the state and diesel truck traffic and idling have long been a concern. We need leadership and innovative solutions from the private and public sectors to address these harms and the Port of San Francisco’s initiative to support the transition to zero or near-zero emissions is a step in the right direction.”
The Clean Fleet Experience supports the Port’s Clean Trucking Initiative, which aims to bring clean fuel sources to Pier 96 to support the trucking community in the transition to zero emissions vehicles. The Clean Fleet Experience also advances the Port’s broader Strategic Plan Goal to advance environmental stewardship to limit climate change and protect the Bay.

The Clean Fleet Experience is part of the Port’s ongoing efforts focused on sustainability, which includes transitioning the Port’s vehicle fleet to zero emissions by 2030, improving water quality and Bay health, and improving biodiversity and ensuring compliance with agencies and partners.
