San Francisco Treasure Hunts presents

The Port’s 150th Waterfront Treasure Hunt

April 28, 2013 — 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Clues will be posted here at 11:00 a.m. and available at Pier 1 Lobby at 11:00 a.m.

Answers must be submitted by 3:00 p.m. at the Pier 1 Lobby

To celebrate San Francisco’s waterfront past and present, the Port is hosting a treasure hunt in collaboration with Solve mysteries and riddles, each leading to a unique and little know waterfront location – a historical plaque, a hidden view, or an architectural gem – that few tourists ever see. The team that solves the most clues and plans their route around the playing area most strategically wins the hunt.

The Details

Be sure to bring your walking shoes! The treasure hunt will center around The Embarcadero between Pier 43 (near Powell St) and Pier 40 (near Townsend St.), and will end at the Pier 1 Lobby, which is located on The Embarcadero Roadway at the foot of Washington Street, next to the Ferry Building. Click here for a google map showing the location of Pier 1.

No sign-up is required. To participate, teams or individuals must obtain and follow the clues and bring their answers to the Pier 1 Lobby, where Jayson Wechter of SF Treasure Hunts will score them and distribute prizes. Clues, sleuthing rules, and maps will be posted here on Sunday, April 28th at 11:00 a.m. Printed copies of this information will also be available at the Pier 1 Lobby at 11:00 a.m.

The hunt is designed to last two hours and is best done in teams of four to six players. Solving clues will rely on a range of skills: knowledge of current events, popular culture and literature; the ability to read maps; solving puzzles; research skills; and working effectively in a team. Some clues are easy, a few are difficult, and many are in-between, giving players a variety of challenges.

The first five sleuthing teams to turn in a complete — and correcly answered — clue sheet will receive Port goodie bags, which may include tickets to ferry boat tours and other Port swag (water bottles and sunglasses). Prizes will be offered to all participating teams.  (Please celebrate the Port’s 150 with this Port pen or map!)
