Policy for Zero Waste Events and Activities Restricting the Sale, Use, and Distribution of Certain Plastic Bags, Plastic Bottles, Plastic Food Ware, and the Release of BalloonsExcerpted from the San Francisco Port Commission meeting on February 9, 2012: Zero Waste Event Policy
The Port of San Francisco Zero Waste Event Policy was adopted by the Port Commission on February 9, 2012 and applies to events on Port property that attract more than 5,000 people. This policy prohibits the sale, use, and distribution of:
• single-use plastic water bottles;
• single-use food ware;
• single-use plastic bags; and
The policy also prohibits the intentional release of balloons.
Organizers of smaller events are encouraged to comply with these conditions, and all event organizers are encouraged to avoid the use of disposable plastic packaging. For more information, please see the Policy.
